Notes on the Art of Poetry

I could never have dreamt that there were such goings on
in the world between the covers of books,
such sandstorms and ice blasts of words,,,
such staggering peace, such enormous laughter,
such and so many blinding bright lights,, ,
splashing all over the pages
in a million bits and pieces
all of which were words, words, words,
and each of which were alive forever
in their own delight and glory and oddity and light.

કવિતાની કળા

કેવું કેવું ચાલ્યા કરતું હોય છે આ ચોપડીઓનાં પૂંઠાં વચ્ચે
તે તો મારા સપનામાં યે મને કદી ના સૂઝત.
કેવી કેવી રેતીની ડમરીઓ, કેવા શબ્દ-હિમના જોરઝપાટા ટાઢા;
કેવી જાજરમાન શાંતિ ને કેવા તો પડછંદાં ખુલ્લાં હાસ્યો;
આંજી મૂકે એવી અગણિત અજવાળાંની સેરો,
જેની છોળો આખ્ખાં પાનાનાં પાનાં પર એવાં શીકર બની વેરાઈ
થઇ શબ્દ શબ્દ, થઇ શબ્દ શબ્દ, થઇ શબ્દ શબ્દ …
જે એકબીજાથી સાવ અનોખા સદાકાળના અમર,
અહીં બસ નિજ આનંદે મસ્ત મસ્ત
ને ચિત્રવિચિત્ર કોમળ કોમળ અજવાળાં અજવાળાં.
