જો મારી કલમના શબ્દો
માફી માગી શકે
એ સૌ શબ્દો માટે
જેની ધારને ઝેરમાં ડૂબાડી ડૂબાડી
જીવલેણ કરી
ફંગોળ્યા છે
અમારામાંના જ કોઈએ તારી તરફ
તો કદાચ લખી શકું ફરી
હું કોઈ પ્રેમ કવિતા
જો આ કવિતા
થઈ આસું વહી જઈ શકે
તોડીને મારા હોવાના ઉંબરા
ધસી જઈ શકે
તારા ઉજાડી નખાયેલા ઘરની અંદર
વેરવિખેર ઘરવખરી વચ્ચે
તારી હથેળીમાં પડ્યા
તૂટેલા માટલીના ટુકડાના
છીછરા ગોળાપામાં સમાઈ
એ જો તારી તરસ છિપાવી શકે
તો કદાચ એ ફરી
મારા મોં એ ગણગણતી થઈ શકે
જો આ કાગળ
લઈ જઈ શકે સરહદોની પાર
કતલેઆમ પછી બેઘર થયેલાં
દેશવટો પામેલાં
તારાં ગભરુ નિસાસાઓને
શબ્દોની વચમાંની સાંકડી ગલીઓમાં થઈ
રંગોના ભેદભાવ ભૂંસી નાખતા
એક સુંવાળા, સફેદ અવકાશ ભણી
તો કદાચ હું
આ કાગળની ચુપકીદીને
હવે ખમી શકું.
Gufran (Forgiveness)
If these words that I pen
can seek forgiveness
for all those words
with sharp arrowheads
soaked in poison
that some of us
flung at you
mercilessly,
then perhaps someday
I can write about love.
If this poem
can flow like tears
breaking the thresholds
of my being
and rush into your
vandalized homes
and fill a curved clay piece,
of a broken water pot
resting on your palm
and fill your thirst
as you lie amidst the rubble
then perhaps someday
I can hum it again
If this paper
can carry all those
terrified sighs
exiled from their homes
after the massacre
through the narrow lanes
between words
towards a soft, white plateau
of non-discriminatory space
then perhaps
I can tolerate
the silence
of this sheet of paper.
