વિચારીશું ? જાતને તપાસીશું ?
જીવનમાં પોતાને જે અત્યંત મહત્ત્વનું લાગતું હોય,
પોતે જેને અત્યંત પવિત્ર ગણતા હોઈએ
તે વિષે જરાક કશુંક ચિંતવવા માટે,
જ્યારે જ્યારે ને જ્યાં જ્યાં
અમુક તમુક જાતિના કે કોમના, વર્ણના કે વંશના;
એવા આપણે ભેળા મળતા હોઈએ;
ઘરમાં કે જાહેરમાં કે કામકાજનાં થાનકે,
મંદિરમાં કે મસ્જિદમાં, ગિરજાઘરમાં કે અગિયારીમાં;
ત્યારે ત્યારે આપણા ચિંતવનમાં એવું પણ હોજો કે
જ્યાં જ્યાં અને જ્યારે જ્યારે
બીજા એવા લોકો સાથે પ્રસંગ પડે, મળવાનું બને,
જે અદ્દલ આપણા જેવા ના હોય
ત્યારે પણ તે મેળાપ, તે પ્રસંગ,
શાંતિપૂર્ણ રહે, પ્રસન્નકર બને.
વળી આ હકીકત પણ ધ્યાનમાં લઈએ કે
આ સૃષ્ટિની અગણિત રૂપની અનંત લીલામાં
બધા માનવીઓ ક્યારે ય
એક જ બીબામાથી ઘડાતા જતા નથી.
અને જોઈએ કે એ જ તો છે માનવતાની મહત્તા અને ખૂબી;
કે વૈવિધ્યમાંથી જ આવે છે એ મહત્તા અને તાકાત.
અને એ હકીકત પણ યાદ રાખીએ કે
કુદરતમાં ક્યાં ય કશું એક જ સરખું હોતું નથી,
સૃષ્ટિમાં જેમ જુદા જુદા પ્રકારની ચીજો,
એમ જ પાછાં દરેક ચીજના દરેક નમૂના જુદા …
કોઈ ઝાડ, કોઈ છોડ, એક સરખાં નહીં,
ન કદમાં, ન ઘાટમાં, ના રંગમાં, ન ગુણમાં,
ગંધ જુદી, સ્વાદ જુદા, અસર જુદી ..
ન કોઈ તણખલાં એકસરખાં, ન માટીના કણ …
ફૂલે ફૂલે જુદા રંગ, જુદા જુદા ઘાટ, જુદી જુદી વાસ …
સાગરકિનારે રેતીનો કણેકણ આગવાં રૂપરંગનો નમૂનો …
કુદરત નથી એકરૂપિણી, નથી એક્સૂરીલી;
અહીં નથી નકરા ટેકરા ને ડુંગરા,
કે નથી સપાટ મેદાન જ મેદાન,
નથી માત્ર વગડા ને વનરાજી કે ગીચોગીચ જંગલો,
નથી માત્ર ઘાસિયા સરોવર કે નથી ખાલી સૂકાં રણ …
બધાં પ્રાણીઓ ય ક્યાં એકસરખાં હોય છે ….
ઊડી જાણે એને કહ્યાં ખેચર, જમીન પર વસે તે ભૂચર,
જળના નાનકડા ખાબોચિયાથી લઈને કૂવા-તળાવમાં,
નદી ને નાળાંમાં, સરોવર ને સમંદરમાં વસે તે જળચર ..,
જુઓ કે કેટલાંક તોતિંગ કદનાં
તો બીજાં અનેક નારી આંખે દેખાય નહીં એટલાં બારીક ..
તો ત્યારે શા માટે સઘળા માણસોને એકસમાન
હોવાનો, થવાનો, બનાવવાનો આગ્રહ…?
ડુંગર ટોચે પહોંચવાની કેડીઓ તો અનેક છે,
કોઈ એક જ “સાચી” હોવાનો કોઈનો દાવો કેમ મનાય,
અને તો ય ઘણા એવા દાવા નોંધાવ્યા જ કરે,
એ માટે બીજાઓ સાથે હરીફાઈ કરે, તકરાર કરે
‘સાચો’ મારગ તો એ જ કે
સહુની કેડીને એકસરખા માનથી કબૂલવી;
એવી રીતે કે ન કોઈને નૂકસાન પહોંચે, ન કશી હાનિ …
ચાલો આપણે એકબીજા સાથે આદરથી, ઉદારતાથી,
કરુણાથી ને કાળજીથી વર્તતા રહીએ …
આપણને જે કાંઈ આઘા અને અળગા રાખે
તેના કરતાં અનેકગણું એવું છે કે જે આપણું સહિયારું છે …
પોતાનો ઉદ્ધાર પોતાની રીતે જ કરીએ,
તો સાથે સાથે એ પણ ન ભૂલીએ કે
આપણે સહુ માટે વિશ્વ તો આ એક જ છે.

Reflection and Introspection
Wherever and whenever people gather,
regardless of race, creed, color, or ethnic origin,
be it in their homes, in public,
at their places of work, or in
temples, churches, mosques, synagogues…
to reflect on what is vital to them,
to give credit and thanks for their existence,
to reflect on what they value most in life,
to reflect on what they consider to be most sacred…
let them also consider what is
honorable, honest, decent, right, just, and humane
whenever and wherever dealing with
and encountering people who are not
exactly as they themselves are…
Let the encounter and interaction
be peaceful!
Let them reflect on the fact
that in the infinite wisdom of what is divine,
not all people were created as if made from one single mold.
Let them reflect that therein lies
the greatness and beauty of humanity!
There is greatness and strength in diversity.
Reflect on the fact that in nature
there is no homogeneity…
There are vast differences
within and between all things in existence…
Not all the trees are the same
in size, shape, and stature,
nor do they all serve the exact same purpose…
Not all the blades of grass are exactly alike…
Not all grains of sand on all the beaches of the world
are identical…
Not all flowers are of one size, shape, or color…
nor do they emit the same fragrance…
Nature is not uniform or monotone.
It is not all mountainous,
nor is it all flat and plain…
It is not all forested,
nor is it all grassland, or desert…
Not all creatures inhabit the lands…
Consider those which fly,
and those which swim
in the vast oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, and ponds…
Consider that some are gigantic,
and others can only be detected
under microscopic examination…
Why then should all humans
be compelled and coerced
to become identical.
There are many paths
to the mountain top…
No-one has an exclusive claim
to the only “right” course of action…
although many do exactly this..,.
contesting and conflicting with each other…
combatting each other…
Let the only way be one
respectful interaction…
doing only what will not
bring hurt or harm
to anyone else…
Let us interact
with consideration, with generosity,
with charity, with kindness, and with care…
We have more things in common
than what divides or differentiates us,
one from the other.
Seek your salvation in your own way,
but consider and reflect on the fact
that we have only one world to share!
