િતસ્તા સેતલવાડ – તથા ભારત જેવું થવું જોઈતું હતું એવું રાખવા માટે પ્રયત્નશીલ અન્ય જક્કી જનોને
પહેલાં એ બધા સંજીવ ભટ્ટ પાછળ પડી ગયા;
પણ હું કાંઈ ન’તો બોલ્યો; હું પોલીસ-ખાતામાં નહીં ને ! તે પછી આસારામ કેસના સાક્ષીઓ મરવા લાગ્યા.
પણ હું કાંઈ ન’તો બોલ્યો; હું કોઈ ગુરુ-બુરુનો ભગત તો છું નહીં !
પછી વ્યાપમ કેસના સાક્ષીઓ એક પછી એક મરવા લાગ્યા;
અને હું કાંઈ ન’તો બોલ્યો; કારણ કે હું મધ્યપ્રદેશનો નિવાસી નહીં ને?
પછી માયા કોડનાનીને જામીન પર છોડી દેવાયાં.
પણ હું કાંઈ ન’તો બોલ્યો; એ બાઈએ મારું ક્યાં કશું બગાડ્યું’તું ?
પછી એ લોકો બોમ્બ-ધડાકામાં સંડોવાયેલા હિન્દુઓ સામેના કેસો પાછા ખેંચવા લાગ્યા.
પણ હું કાંઈ ન’તો બોલ્યો; કારણ કે હિંદુઓ તો અહિંસક હોય છે; એમને શું કામ સતાવવાના ?
ત્યાર બાદ એમણે રાજ્યમાં ગો-માંસ પર પ્રતિબંધ મૂક્યો;
પણ હું કાંઈ ન’તો બોલ્યો; આમે ય લાલ માંસ આરોગ્ય માટે સારું નથી ગણાતું.
પછી એ લોકો “ઘર-વાપસી” “ઘર-વાપસી” એવા નારા લગાવવા લાગ્યા;
મને થયું કે વિદેશ-પ્રવાસી વડાપ્રધાન ક્યારેક દેશ પાછા ફરે છે તેની વધામણીના હશે.
પછી એ લોકોએ “ગ્રીન-પીસ”નાં નાણાં સ્થગિત કરી દીધાં; મને થયું કે એમાં શું?
ગમે તેમ તો ય ભારતે વિકાસ કરવાનો છે અને ગ્રીન-પીસ વાળા તો વિકાસમાં રોડાં નાખવા બેઠા છે ને?
પછી એમણે પ્રિયા પિલ્લાઈને વિદેશ જતા વિમાનમાં ચડતાં જ રોકી પાડ્યાં.
ત્યારે મેં કહ્યું, અરે રે, ભારતનું બૂરું બોલવા માટે થઈને આ બાઈએ બ્રિટીશ પાર્લામેન્ટ સુધી લાંબા થવાની શી જરૂર હતી?
ત્યાર બાદ, એમણે તિસ્તા સેતલવાડની ધરપકડ કરી.
મેં એ તરફ ધ્યાન ન આપ્યું; એને કાંઈ ન થાય તેનું ધ્યાન સુપ્રીમ કોર્ટ રાખશે; આપણે શું લેવા ફિકર કરવી?
પછી એમણે તિસ્તાના ઘરમાં ‘રેડ’ પાડી;
મને થયું કે નક્કી એ કંઈક છુપાવતી હશે; નહીંતર તો બધું જાહેર કેમ નથી કરી દેતી હોય?
કહે છે કે એક દિવસ એ બધા મને શોધતા પણ આવી ચડશે.
કેવી તો વાહિયાત વાત!
ભારત તો દુનિયાની સૌથી મોટી લોકશાહી છે.
આ કાંઈ ખોટકલું પ્રજાસત્તાક નથી.
હું બધા કરવેરા ભરતો નાગરિક છું.
હું ‘આધાર’ કાર્ડ પણ ધરાવું છું.
અરે, હું યોગા પણ કરું છું.
પણ તો ય મને પકડે તો તમે તો મારી તરફે બોલશો ને?

First they went after Sanjiv Bhatt But I said nothing because I wasn’t a cop.
Then the witnesses in Asaram’s case started dropping dead
But I said nothing because I wasn’t a fan of any guru – buru.
Then the witnesses of Vyapam case started falling one by one
And I said nothing because I didn’t live in Madhya Pradesh.
Then they released Maya Kodnani on bail
And I said nothing because that woman did no harm to me.
Then they tried withdrawing cases against Hindus accused of bomb blasts,
And I said nothing because Hindus are non-violent, so why should they be prosecuted?
Then they banned beef in the state,
And I said nothing because red meat is bad for health anyway.
Then they started shouting “ghar wapsi,”
And I thought they are cheering the Prime Minister on his occasional visits back home to India.
Then they froze the accounts of Greenpeace
But I thought that shouldn’t matter, after all India has to develop, no, and doesn’t Greenpeace stop all development?
Then they stopped Priya Pillai from boarding a flight
And I thought, come on, why does she have to go to a British parliament to speak against India?
Then they tried to arrest Teesta Setalvad,
But I ignored that – the Supreme Court made sure nothing would happen to her, so why should we care?
Then they raided Teesta’s home And I thought, maybe she had something to hide, otherwise why wouldn’t she disclose everything?
Some day, they say, they’ll come for me.
That’s ridiculous; India is the world’s largest democracy.
It is not some banana republic.
I pay my taxes;
I have my aadhaar card;
I even do yoga.
But if they do come, will you speak up for me?
